Using Stem Cells in the Practice of Medicine Like in vitro fertilization, the ICMS believes that adult stem cell procedures, in general, are considered the “practice of medicine.” The choice to engage in these therapies is left up to individual physician's judgment and experience and the oversight by the physician's local licensing board. While the ICMS produces and publishes the following guidelines for the clinical practice of stem cell therapies, we highly recommend that all physicians seek appropriate legal counsel prior to undertaking any such procedures.
This section, taken from the ICMS Clinical Guidelines, is intended to aid physicians in evaluating the application of stem cell thaparies in their daily practice of medicine.
